The annual INK! Print Rally returns for its eighth year this Saturday, September 14. Hosted by Emerge, whose mission is “to provide free and affordable arts education to youth and adults in our community,” enjoy interactive printmaking booths with activities for all ages, local artisans and makers, live music, food trucks and a beer garden, all happening 1 to 7pm. In the center of the parking lot, large-scale prints are created using 5’ x 4’ carved wood panels, an asphalt roller and fabric.
“In addition to dozens of local and regional artists, our outreach extends to six regional colleges and universities, local businesses, and community-based organizations. Last year, the Print Rally attracted over 2,500 community members,” notes Jeni Hegsted, executive director for Emerge.
During the 2024 event, artists will be exploring the theme Dichotomy. The showcased prints, according to Jeni, will reflect the process of steamrolling panels of carved wood: bearing stress upon fabric, ink and wood “to create a piece of art that speaks of the artist, the context and the process.”
Funds raised during the Print Rally will be used to maintain printmaking equipment for the Emerge classroom, offer scholarships, and provide the needed resources to underwrite diverse art education for our community.
